SINGAPORE - A 34-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (June 7) for public nuisance after leaving a luggage bag unattended at Admiralty MRT Station.

The police were alerted to the unattended bag at the bicycle bay of the station at 8.45am. It contained personal items like clothing, medication and toiletries.

Officers from Jurong Police Division and the Public Transport Security Command, together with SMRT staff, traced the luggage's owner and arrested him at the station.

He left the bag unattended when he went to make a purchase at a convenience store, preliminary investigations revealed.

Police investigations are still ongoing, said the police in a statement on Wednesday night.

The police said they treat all security threats seriously and will not hesitate to take action against anybody who deliberately causes public alarm.

They reminded the public not to leave personal belongings unattended, adding that any suspicious behaviour or items should be reported to them or MRT staff immediately.

This is the third time in three months that police have made arrests for similar offences.

Last month, two men aged 25 and 27 were arrested after leaving three bags unattended at Aljunied MRT Station, which were later found to contain only food and household items.

And in April, a 69-year-old man was arrested after leaving flour at Woodleigh MRT Station, sparking a security scare that led to the station being closed for about three hours.
