Man arrested for injuring police officers, drug-related offences in Bugis

SINGAPORE - A man was arrested in Bugis for injuring two police officers, and for suspected drug-related offences, on the morning of May 9.

In response to queries, the police said they were patrolling along Cheng Yan Place, beside the Bugis+ shopping mall, at 10.55am when they spotted a car parked haphazardly along the road.

They then found substances suspected to be controlled drugs and drug utensils in the car, after they checked on the driver.

The 30-year-old driver resisted arrest but was eventually subdued by officers and a passer-by. Two police officers suffered minor injuries in the process, the police said.

The driver was taken conscious to the hospital and later arrested for voluntarily causing hurt against a public servant and for suspected drug-related offences, the police added. The drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau.

In a video on Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu, two police officers and a man in grey shirt are seen squatting beside another man, who is wearing a black shirt and light-coloured pants.

The man, who is seated beside a red car, appears to have been handcuffed by the police officers.

Three police cars and several passers-by can also be seen in the video.

When contacted, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said at about 11am, it received a call for assistance near 201, Victoria Street. One person was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and another person to Raffles Hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.
