Man arrested for alleged vehicle theft in Yishun

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft of a vehicle in Yishun.
The police were alerted to the incident at about 8.45am on Aug 26, when the victim reported that his car, which was parked at an open-air carpark at Block 751 Yishun Street 72, had allegedly been stolen.
Through ground inquiries and images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the alleged perpetrator and arrested him on the same day, the police said on Aug 27.
The stolen car has also been recovered, the police said, adding that preliminary investigations also showed that the man was allegedly involved in other cases of theft from motor vehicles in the vicinity.
The man is expected to be charged in court on Aug 28.
Theft of a vehicle is an offence and those found guilty can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
The police advised all vehicle owners to take crime prevention measures such as parking in well-lit areas, installing an anti-theft alarm system, and ensuring that their vehicles are well maintained.
Owners should also remove cash cards and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones, before leaving their vehicle.
Locking all vehicle doors and winding up all windows when leaving the vehicle, even for a short while, along with removing the ignition key and locking the vehicle, are also advisable, the police added.
