Driver arrested after fatal accident involving motorcyclist in Loyang

A 31-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after an accident at the junction of Loyang Way and Loyang Lane on Jan 24.

SINGAPORE – A 55-year-old man was arrested after a motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Loyang on Jan 24.

The police said they were alerted to the accident, which involved a car and a motorcycle, at the junction of Loyang Way and Loyang Lane at about 6.40am.

The motorcyclist, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

The car driver was arrested for careless driving causing death.

Footage of the accident’s aftermath, uploaded to various social media platforms, shows a blue police tent erected next to a badly wrecked motorcycle. Various parts of the motorcycle can be seen scattered across the road.

The motorcycle’s licence plate appears to be a foreign one.

In one video, at least two police motorcycles, a police van and a car are present. A police officer also appears to be talking to a middle-aged man and taking notes.

In a Facebook post at around 9.35am, SBS Transit said several of its bus services were delayed because of the accident.

Services 9, 9B, 19, 59, 89, 89A, 89e and 109 faced delays along Loyang Way towards Loyang Avenue, while services 5, 89 and 89A were delayed along Pasir Ris Drive 3 towards Loyang Way.

Bus services returned to normal at about 10.45am, the transport operator said in an updated post.
