Malaysia-bound motorists urged to avoid Tuas Second Link on July 23 due to chemical spill exercise

During the exercise period, all three lanes on the Singapore to Malaysia-bound carriageway on the Tuas Second Link will be closed to vehicular traffic. Motorists will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway instead.

SINGAPORE – Motorists heading to Malaysia on July 23 should avoid using the Tuas Checkpoint from 5am to 2pm, as there will be an ongoing emergency response exercise.
Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) and Malaysia’s Department of Environment, together with other agencies, will be holding a chemical spill exercise during that period as part of a bilateral cooperation programme under the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment.
During that period, all three lanes on the Singapore to Malaysia-bound carriageway on the Tuas Second Link will be closed to vehicular traffic, NEA said in a statement on July 21.
Motorists will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway instead.
NEA urged motorists to plan their journey in advance, follow the directions of traffic marshals on-site and tune in to Singapore radio stations for traffic updates.
They are also encouraged to use the Woodlands Checkpoint during this period.
The bilateral multi-agency exercise will simulate an emergency response to a multi-vehicle collision along the Tuas Second Link involving trucks carrying chemicals.
NEA has advised the public not to be alarmed.
