SINGAPORE – A motorcyclist died after an accident involving a lorry and a trailer on the KJE on the morning of Oct 23.

When contacted, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force said they were alerted to the accident, which occurred before the Senja Road exit towards the PIE, at about 7am.

A 52-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic, and a 24-year-old male lorry driver was arrested for careless driving causing death, said the police.

In a video of the incident shared on Facebook, a few motorcyclists are seen riding between the first and the second lane of the expressway.

A lorry travelling on the first lane attempts to filter to the left and hits the victim’s motorcycle. The victim loses his balance and falls into the path of a trailer on the second lane.

Investigations are ongoing.

In 2023, motorcyclist and pillion rider fatalities accounted for half of all fatalities in road accidents, claiming 68 lives, according to figures issued by the police.

In total, 4,290 motorcycle and pillion riders were injured in accidents that year.
