SINGAPORE - Five migrant workers were taken to hospital after an accident involving a lorry and car in Punggol on March 1.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the accident, which took place at the junction of Punggol East and Punggol Central, at about 6.40pm.

Five lorry passengers, aged between 25 and 45, were conscious when they were taken to the hospital, the police said.

The 41-year-old lorry driver was arrested for dangerous driving, and investigations are ongoing, the police added.

Two people declined to be taken to the hospital, said SCDF.

Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News reported that those injured in the accident were migrant workers.

Photos obtained by the newspaper showed two workers laying in the back of a lorry. One worker is seen lying on his front and bleeding from his forehead, with blood splattered near him.

The lorry driver said there were three people in the front seat of the lorry, and three others in the back when the accident happened, Shin Min reported.
