SINGAPORE - NTUC FairPrice has closed a food counter where a cockroach was seen scuttling around in a packet of braised duck.

A video of the small live roach crawling in the packet of braised duck was posted on Facebook by All Singapore Stuff on Friday (March 3).

The packet containing a quarter of a duck was dated March 3 and sold for $5.95.

The 11-second clip has been watched more than 160,000 times and shared more than 4,500 times on Facebook as of Sunday afternoon.

The ready-to-eat counter where the food was sold is run by an external vendor at its Ang Mo Kio Hub store, a FairPrice spokesman said.

"At noon last Friday, we closed the counter indefinitely and discarded all products while a full investigation is being conducted," he said.

"All our concession vendors are required to adhere to strict safety and quality standards."

He aded that pest controllers were called into inspect the area, and found no signs of pest activity.

"We assure customers that food safety and hygiene is of paramount importance to us and we will spare no efforts in providing only wholesome food to our customers," he said.
