SINGAPORE - Online shopping website Lazada has stopped the sale of silicone bongs - water pipes typically used for smoking weed - after they were made available by two retailers on its Singapore marketplace.

In a statement to The Straits Times on Thursday (Oct 19), a Lazada Singapore spokesman said they "do not allow for any products that are not legal in Singapore to be available on our site".

The sale of the items was highlighted two days ago (Oct 17) in the Reddit online forum, raising eyebrows among its users.

Checks by The Straits Times found that a search of the terms "silicone bong" yielded at least 10 listings from two sellers.

The bongs were priced between $7 and $8, and came in different colours. Oddly, they were placed under the category of toys for babies and toddlers.

When asked by ST, Lazada Singapore did not say how many buyers from Singapore had purchased the bongs, or how long they had been available for sale.

A spokesman from the Central Narcotics Bureau said it "will investigate (the) known sale and purchase of bongs and take action if they are found to be used for drug activities".
