Istana opens to public on Hari Raya Puasa

SINGAPORE - The Istana grounds, excluding the Istana Lawn, will be open to the public between 8.30am and 6pm next Wednesday (July 6) in celebration of Hari Raya Puasa.

The Istana Lawn is closed to facilitate renovation works till end of the year.

There will be music performances by St. Joseph's Institution Military Band, Dunman High School Symphonic Band, Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School Handbell Ensemble as well as the NTUC Ukulele Group.

Visitors can also look forward to balloon sculpting by SingTel Recreation Club and a display of birds by Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

Paid guided tours will also be available, showcasing the Istana's flora and fauna, and in a separate tour, its main building, selected function rooms and gifts presented to the president and prime minister by foreign dignitaries.

Those interested in a self-guided tour can download the mobile app, Istana Garden Walk, and features include a self-guided trail to discover 10 types of plant species in the Istana Gardens.

Entry to the ground will be free for Singaporeans and permanent residents. Other visitors have to pay a $2 entrance fee, the proceeds of which will be donated to charity.

Entry to the Istana grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. The nearest MRT station is Dhoby Ghaut.
