Mr Ong Kok Poo took over the rental of the kiosk in Whampoa in 1993 from an egg seller. The mamak shop was originally run by Indians in the 1970s.

Many people may have heard of the popular Balestier Road Hoover Rojak, whose rojak dish is listed in the Singapore Michelin Guide.
But what is less known is that this savoury dish gets its sugar from a mamak shop with its very own claim to fame.
