More livestock for korban this year

A total of 2,000 sheep and 1,700 lambs will be available for this year's korban ritual - 200 more than last year.

The animals will be flown in from Australia and Ireland and made available at 25 mosques in Singapore.

It will cost $499 to buy a sheep for the Islamic ritual sacrifice of korban in September - $9 less than last year. Each lamb will cost $570 - $5 less than last year.

Those who wish to perform korban can register from Saturday. Registration will close on Sept 14.

Travel agency suspended

Travel agency A D Travel has been suspended from its operations as it failed to meet the minimum financial requirements mandated under the Travel Agents Regulations , said the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) yesterday.

STB has received complaints that the agency could not settle refunds to customers. The agency is required to fulfil its existing obligations but cannot accept new travel bookings during the suspension.

The Consumers Association of Singapore handled five complaints against the agency between Jan 1 last year and yesterday.
