12 months' jail for sex with girl under 16

A freelance production stage manager was jailed for 12 months yesterday for having sex with a 14-year-old girl four years ago.

Sazali Hussain, 31, pleaded guilty to having sex with a girl under 16 with her consent at an HDB block in Choa Chu Kang sometime in 2012.

Sazali, then 28, came to know the Secondary 2 student over social media that year. When they met, he did not verify the girl's age before having sex with her.

Eng Hen urges greater military cooperation

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen called for greater cooperation between militaries yesterday during the fifth Moscow Conference on International Security.

The annual event brings together high-level defence and military leaders from around the world to discuss a range of security issues.

While in Moscow, Dr Ng had his first bilateral meeting with Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Interfaith social programmes

The Heart of God Church has partnered with Khalid Mosque and Geylang United Temple to launch a tuition programme in June for 90 students from low-income or at-risk backgrounds taking major exams this year.

They will also be starting a blood donation drive and a sports mentorship scheme for 60 young people.

The programmes were announced yesterday at an interfaith event by the church and the Geylang Serai Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle.
