When your child needs urgent medical care, you may be anxious if you had to wait hours at the accident and emergency (A&E) department.
If a follow-up visit is required, having to schedule specialist appointments at different locations will likely be inconvenient as well.
Recognising these challenges, Parkway East Hospital has brought together its paediatric services – from urgent care to specialist visits – to offer a convenient one-stop solution.
At its Joo Chiat premises, the hospital’s Paediatric Urgent Care Centre (UCC) provides timely care for paediatric patients,
The UCC, which opened in Dec 2023, is supported by an on-site general paediatric clinic and a range of children’s health specialists.

This integrated approach has drawn patients from across Singapore, not just those who live in the East, says its chief executive officer Ivan Khor.
He adds: “Parkway East Hospital’s ecosystem makes it easy for parents seeking medical treatments for their young ones. They can avoid the inconvenience of shuttling between different hospitals and specialist clinics.
“Parents appreciate that they now have more healthcare choices for their child.”
All paediatric services under one roof
According to Mr Khor, the hospital saw an 11.9-per-cent rise in children’s admissions in 2023, with UCC cases more than doubling from the previous year.
“This was a clear indication of growing demand for paediatric urgent care,” he says.
With the dedicated Paediatric UCC
“The expertise in managing paediatric patients and adult patients is very different,” says Mr Khor.
Children need special care and reassurance to help them feel comfortable during emergencies and medical visits, he adds.
Since opening, the centre has seen a 20-per-cent increase in admissions for urgent cases, with the top conditions being gastroenteritis and abdominal pain, and respiratory issues such as pneumonia, bronchiolitis, bronchopneumonia and influenza.
The Paediatric UCC operates from 8am to 11pm daily. After hours, parents can still access emergency care for their child through the hospital’s main UCC, which is open 24 hours.
The paediatric wards at Parkway East Hospital feature dedicated play spaces to help distract young patients from their discomfort.

Extending this continuity of care is the hospital’s Parkway East Paediatric Clinic
The clinic takes a holistic approach to a child’s growth and development, considering the physical, emotional and environmental aspects of a child’s well-being, with each visit contributing to a comprehensive health record that enables better monitoring of the child’s development. At Parkway East Hospital, your child’s healthcare needs are conveniently located in one place. From specialist clinics offering services like dermatology, ophthalmology, and orthopaedics to access to laboratory, radiology, and operating theatre facilities, care is seamless and efficient.
Parents have the flexibility to book directly with specialist clinics or seek referrals through the Paediatric UCC or Paediatric Clinic. When necessary, paediatricians can coordinate specialist consultations or hospital admissions with just a call and memo – ensuring a smoother and less stressful experience for families.
Convenient locations for ongoing care
While doctors can schedule follow-up appointments within Parkway East Hospital, parents can also choose to have them arranged at Parkway MediCentre at The Woodleigh Mall
The centre offers general practitioner and family physician services, extended-hours urgent care, health screenings, specialist consultations and rehabilitation services, along with dedicated paediatric care teams and child-friendly facilities.

For care closer to home, parents can also turn to Parkway Shenton clinics
These are part of a network of over 38 Parkway Shenton clinics across Singapore, with several accepting government subsidies under the Community Health Assist Scheme (Chas), Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP) and Healthier SG.
Vaccines under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS) are also subsidised under the Chas scheme. The clinics can also refer patients directly to the Parkway East Paediatric UCC when necessary.
“As part of our Parkway family, Parkway Shenton and Parkway MediCentre clinics offer convenient access to routine healthcare services, including vaccinations and treatment for common childhood conditions,” says Mr Khor.
“Their close proximity to residential areas ensures parents can easily access follow-up care when needed.”
Whether it is abdominal discomfort, bronchiolitis, eczema or other common childhood conditions, Parkway’s holistic healthcare solutions help take a load off parents’ minds as they manage their children’s medical needs.
