Health retailer GNC assures customers its products are safe after supplement warning

SINGAPORE - A major health supplement retailer has assured its customers that it does not sell any of the eight products highlighted by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) as containing prohibited ingredients.

The HSA had warned on Tuesday that the supplements contain potent Western medicinal ingredients that are banned here. The products - such as Nutrex Research Lipo 6 Black Ultra Concentrate, Muscletech Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite and Primaforce Yohimbine HCL - are sourced from online retailers.

GNC, a United States-based retailer with more than 60 stores here, assured its customers that its health products do not contain any prohibited ingredients.

Ms Jennifer Goh, general manager of GNC Singapore, said: "GNC Singapore has not been affected in any way by HSA's investigations."

The HSA warned that the eight products contain ingredients such as phenolphthalein and yohimbine that can cause heart palpitations, kidney disorders and insomnia.

It advised consumers to stop using the banned products immediately and to exercise caution when buying health products.
