Bumper health fair

People who visit the upcoming Health & You exhibition next month will have plenty to see, learn and buy.

The 11th edition of the annual health extravaganza is set to feature a bumper group of about 80 exhibitors, up from 67 last year.

Organised by Mind Your Body and Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao's health section Lohas, it will be held from July 11 to 12 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Bargain hunters can expect to get first dibs on health supplements and lifestyle products, while the health-conscious can learn about medical conditions and services.

For instance, you can get a free gait test by podiatrists on whether your movements are normal. One can also check out pain-relief products.

The Hearing Specialist Clinics, which is taking part in the exhibition for the third time, noted that there is a growing interest in the latest technology on hearing aids and hearing loss management.

For instance, today's hearing aids are almost invisible - as they can be placed inside the ear canal - but offer better sound quality and can connect to devices wirelessly like mobile phones, said its spokesman.

"The modern, invisible hearing aids are less noticeable than untreated hearing loss," said Mr Tan Boon Hai, the principal audiologist at The Hearing Specialist Clinics.

It will not all be serious business. Visitors can catch the Kids Got Talent contest, featuring entertaining acts by children aged four to 12.

Last year, the contest received more than 50 entries. The top performer walked away with $1,200 worth of prizes.

Registration is still open for this year's contest until June 25. For inquiries and to sign up, e-mail mkghealthandyou@sph.com.sg.
