His father – an erhu player who made his own instruments – died, Ngoh Thiam Meng mourned him by making a guitar from scratch. He later became a luthier who has repaired thousands of guitars.
The afternoon light streams into the spotless kitchen of a four-room HDB flat in Clementi West Street 1.
It is one of Mr Ngoh Thiam Meng's favourite spots. The 49-year-old luthier and guitar teacher moved into the unit with his parents and four elder siblings when he was six.
