SINGAPORE – Popular Singapore theme park Haw Par Villa will be partially closed for maintenance and repair works from Dec 8.

In a statement on Nov 18, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), which oversees the park, said the partial closure will be in place until further notice.

During this period, the Hell’s Museum – which includes the 10 Courts of Hell – will stay open to visitors.

“These maintenance works will ensure public safety whilst preserving the unique cultural and artistic elements that remain an important part of Singapore’s heritage,” the board said.

Located in Pasir Panjang Road, Haw Par Villa was built in 1937 by the Myanmar-Chinese Aw brothers of Tiger Balm ointment fame.

The park’s closure also coincides with the end of the operating contract for its current management, Journeys Pte Ltd, STB said.

The contract began in 2015 and will end on Dec 7.

STB added it is engaging key stakeholders to review the future plans for Haw Par Villa as part of ongoing efforts to keep Singapore’s tourism offerings relevant to local and international visitors.

Further updates on the park’s development will be shared in due course, it said.
