SINGAPORE - Singaporeans of all faiths will be able to visit four of the Republic’s oldest Hindu temples on designated days in July in celebration of SG60 and Racial Harmony Month.
The initiative, put together by the Hindu Endowments Board, allows Singaporeans from other faiths to explore the rich traditions, history and architecture of Hindu temples – two of which are gazetted national monuments, and all four of which have served the community since the 1800s.
These temples are Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Sri Sivan Temple and Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple.
Visitors can enjoy guided temple tours, curated exhibitions of sacred artefacts, classical dance and music performances, hands-on activities such as garland making and thoranam (decorative door hangings) crafting, said the Hindu Endowments Board in a release on June 27.
They can also sample authentic South Indian temple cuisine and get exclusive collectibles.
Visitors can visit the temples from 8am to 2pm.
Sri Sivan Temple in Geylang will be open on July 5, while Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown will be open on July 12.
Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple in Toa Payoh will be open on July 19, and Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Serangoon on July 27.
Visitors can register for guided tours at
They are requested to dress modestly and refrain from wearing shorts or bare tops, to maintain the sanctity and respectful environment of these sacred spaces, said the Hindu Endowments Board.
