SINGAPORE – Scammers are now impersonating the taxman and sending e-mails to Singaporeans, asking them to click on a link to review their taxes.
Those who receive an e-mail claiming that a routine tax review is being conducted should not click the link in it, warned the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) in a statement on March 19.
In the e-mail, recipients are informed that the review is meant to ensure the accuracy of their tax submissions for the Year of Assessment 2024.
They are then told that additional information may be required from them, and are asked to confirm their tax submissions by clicking on the link.
The e-mail states that taxpayers who fail to respond within five working days may be penalised or have their accounts suspended.
Singaporeans are advised to ignore the phishing e-mail and avoid giving out any personal, credit card or bank account details.
They should not make payments or follow any of the instructions in the e-mail, said the statement.
Iras added that it does not send notices on tax matters via unsecured e-mails.

Victims of the scam are advised to make police reports, it added.
