SINGAPORE - A peanut-based snack is being recalled after the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) found that it contained milk, an undeclared allergen.

The product – Good’s Veg. Peanut Cake – is being recalled by its importer, Goods Huat Hee Marketing, the agency said in a statement on Jan 16.

The recalled product is from Malaysia and expires on Dec 1, 2025.

While milk does not pose a food safety issue to most consumers, SFA said that those who are intolerant of or allergic to milk could get an allergic reaction after consuming food products with milk.

Those who are allergic to milk typically show symptoms as soon as they consume it. The symptoms include wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems, according to the Mayo Clinic. In more serious cases, anaphylaxis – marked by the constriction of the airways – may happen.

Under Singapore’s food regulations, food products containing ingredients that are known to cause hypersensitivity must be declared on food packaging labels to protect consumers with food allergies, SFA said.

Those who are intolerant of or allergic to milk and have consumed the implicated products should seek medical advice, the agency added.
