Gift of music keeps giving 10 years on

A free lunchtime concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra attracted an audience of more than 1,200 to the Esplanade Concert Hall yesterday. Sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), the concert marked the 10th anniversary of the SPH Gift of Music free community concert series. Music director and Cultural Medallion recipient Lan Shui conducted the orchestra. The chairman of SPH and the SPH Foundation, Dr Lee Boon Yang (left), presented a cheque for $400,000 to the vice-chairman of the Community Chest, Mr Eric Ang. The donation will be shared among 20 charities that serve the elderly, the disabled as well as underprivileged children.
