SINGAPORE - American baby food maker Gerber is recalling its two Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks products as they pose a potential choking hazard to babies and young children, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has said.
The agency said on Feb 17 that it was informed by the importer, Redmart Pte Ltd, on the voluntary recall by the manufacturer and has directed Redmart to recall the products as a precautionary measure.
The affected products are all batches of Gerber’s strawberry apple and banana sticks.
The recall is ongoing.
Gerber’s parent company Nestle first announced the recall and discontinuation of the teething sticks on Jan 31 on Nestle USA’s website.
The Nestle notice said that the recall was initiated “after receiving consumer complaints of choking incidents”, with one reported case leading to an emergency room visit.
SFA said that consumers whose children have eaten the implicated products and have concerns about their children’s health should seek medical advice. They may contact their point of purchase for enquiries.
