SINGAPORE – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on May 8 to congratulate him on the outcome of Singapore’s general election.

On May 3, the PAP, led by PM Wong,

took 65.57 per cent of the vote

. This was an improvement from the 2020 General Election, when the party won 61.24 per cent of the popular vote.

During the phone call, the two leaders reaffirmed the strong ties between Singapore and Vietnam, said Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on May 8.

In March, bilateral relations between the two countries were

elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP)

– a high-level formal agreement that fosters broad collaboration between two parties across key sectors.

In their conversation, PM Wong and Mr Chinh also discussed deepening cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, renewable energy, carbon credits and people-to-people ties.

They also looked forward to concluding the plan of action on the CSP’s implementation, MFA said.

On May 7,

the leaders of Asean countries Cambodia and Thailand also congratulated PM Wong on his win

, and expressed their desire to deepen bilateral relations with Singapore.
