SINGAPORE – A batch of French unpasteurised cheese is being recalled due to the likely presence of bacteria that can cause food poisoning.
The recall was ordered for Nangis Lait Cru Truffe Noire 3% (100g) – a soft cheese made from raw milk filled with black truffle – after the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed issued a notice, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Jan 21.
It belongs to lot number 34112024, with a use-by date of Jan 1 to Feb 1, 2025.
SFA has since directed the importer, The Cheese Shop, to recall the product. The recall is ongoing.
The product is being ordered off the shelves due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a food-borne bacteria that can cause food poisoning, said SFA.
Symptoms could include fever, muscle ache, nausea and diarrhoea. Listeria can also be fatal to pregnant women, infants and the immunocompromised, the agency added.
Foods that are at higher risk of being contaminated with the bacteria include unpasteurised or raw dairy products, soft cheese including those ripened by mould, refrigerated meat spread, smoked fish, and ready-to-eat deli meats and sausages, SFA said.
SFA advised consumers who have bought the implicated product not to consume them.
Those who had done so and became unwell should seek medical attention, the agency said, adding that consumers may contact their point of purchase for inquiries.
