SINGAPORE – Four men are expected to be charged in court on Feb 6 after they allegedly broke into a construction site and stole copper wire worth about $10,000.
The police said on Feb 5 that they were alerted to the case of housebreaking and theft at a construction site in Clementi Road on Jan 30 at 8.35pm.
Preliminary investigations showed that the men, aged between 24 and 30, had allegedly stolen the copper wires and sold them to a scrap metal company.
The four were arrested on Feb 4.
They are to be charged in court with housebreaking and theft with common intention. If found guilty, they can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
The police added that the owner of the scrap metal company will be investigated under the Secondhand Goods Dealer Act.
The company’s employees who allegedly received the stolen copper wires will also be investigated for dishonestly receiving stolen property.
