SINGAPORE - A fire broke out at a warehouse in Pioneer early on April 16.
In a Facebook post on the same day, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at 23 Gul Drive at about 6.15am.
SCDF personnel used water jets and an unmanned firefighting machine to extinguish the fire within an hour, although damping down operations are being carried out at the affected area.
Damping down refers to the application of water to wet burnt surfaces to prevent any reignition of materials.
The fire involved waste materials stored at the warehouse, measuring about 20m by 40m, said the SCDF.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
A Building and Construction Authority spokesman told The Straits Times that it has conducted an assessment of the building’s condition and found signs of deformation in the steel structures and warping in several sections of the metal roofing.
It added that it has instructed the owner of the warehouse to close the building and appoint a professional engineer to assess the situation and recommend necessary precautionary measures.
The professional engineer will also be required to carry out a detailed investigation into the extent of the damage and propose permanent rectification works.
Checks by The Straits Times showed a number of businesses registered at the address. These include Lirich Resources, a waste management firm whose website states that it operates a 50,000 sq ft waste operation facility.
When contacted, Ms Qris Loke, who is listed on its website as a co-founder and managing director, declined to comment.
Another business whose address is listed online at the premises, Biofix Agri, said it is no longer operating there.
The warehouse at the same address had similarly caught fire nearly three years ago, when about 50 SCDF firefighters used water and foam jets to put out a fire at the premises. No injuries were reported during the June 2022 incident. It is not known if the company involved then is the same as Lirich Resources.
ST has contacted the SCDF for more information.
