SINGAPORE – Firefighters put out a fire that broke out at a storage shed at a fish farm in Sungei Tengah on the afternoon of Sept 23.

The fire occurred at 98 Sungei Tengah Road, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 3.20pm.

In a Facebook update at 4.52pm, SCDF said the fire, which broke out in a 20m by 20m storage shed, was extinguished using three water jets. No injuries were reported.

When The Straits Times arrived at the scene at around 4.45pm, two SCDF fire trucks and two police vehicles were observed.

A fish farm was affected and the owner’s son, who gave his name only as Mr Ng, said: “At about 3pm, my mother shouted at me when she saw smoke coming out from a shed where we kept some equipment for the fish farm.

“The fire was about two storeys high and from 15m away, the fire was so intense, so I couldn’t go close to see. We’ve been here for the last 30 years and it’s the first time we’ve experienced a fire.”

A web search of the address of the incident throws up Cheng Farms, an ornamental fish farm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and a damping down operation is ongoing, the SCDF said.
