SINGAPORE – Lower-income Singaporeans with large families will get double the discounts on purchases at FairPrice and Unity stores from Sept 1 to Dec 31.

The FairPrice Group (FPG) said on Sept 2 that it has raised the discount enjoyed by blue and orange Community Health Assist Scheme (Chas) card holders to 6 per cent from the current 3 per cent in celebration of SG60.

The discount is applicable to these card holders with three or more children under 18 years old. It can be used on Thursdays for blue card holders and Fridays for orange card holders at all FairPrice supermarkets and Unity outlets.

The four-month initiative is the latest in a slew of activities by FPG and FairPrice Foundation to ensure that all Singaporeans have the necessities, the group said in a statement.

The initiative is also in support of the Government’s push to provide more help for Singaporeans with large families, it added.

FPG chief executive Vipul Chawla said: “As a household brand with the mission to keep daily essentials within reach, we are committed to continue growing alongside the nation, and finding new and meaningful ways to make every day a little better for the communities we operate in.”

FPG is the first retailer in Singapore to offer a discount scheme for orange Chas card holders, whose total gross household monthly income per family member living together ranges between $1,501 and $2,300.

This initiative also marks the second time in 2025 that the group has doubled such discounts.

Blue Chas card holder Gina Tan, a mother of three, said she usually spends at least $140 in total during her two FairPrice visits each week.

“Thursdays are my main shopping day, but like many parents, I often need to make an extra trip during the week to top up on basics like bread or milk when they run out,” said Madam Tan, who is a beneficiary of RiverLife Community Services.

“For families like mine, every bit of savings goes a long way.”

Seniors, Pioneer and Merdeka generation individuals, and blue and orange Chas card holders will also be able to have discounts automatically applied when they pay via the FPG mobile app. They will need to do a one-time verification of their information on the app with details from MyInfo.

The automatic application of discounts via FPG’s app started in late May. FPG said that since then, more than 340,000 Link members have updated their profiles using MyInfo.
