SINGAPORE - Hot days are not yet behind us, even as the tail end of summer is upon us.

According to the latest weather forecast from the National Environment Agency (NEA), warm weather is here to stay for the rest of August, with temperatures hitting 34 deg C on some afternoons.

But the good news is that there will be some respite provided by short thundery showers, which are likely on three to five days, mostly in the late morning and early afternoon.

Thundery showers with gusty winds due to Sumatra squalls can also be expected on one to two days in the pre-dawn and morning.

Slightly hazy conditions may be experienced on a few days, as periods of consecutive dry days are common in the region during the Southwest Monsoon season, the NEA said.

The rainfall for August is expected to be slightly below normal, they added.

During the first two weeks of the month, rainfall was above average in the southern half of Singapore, and below average in the northern and central parts of Singapore.

The highest rainfall of 150 mm to 180 mm - 65 to 90 per cent above average - was recorded over the south-western and eastern parts of the island around Boon Lay and Tampines respectively.
