SINGAPORE – Singaporeans should keep their umbrellas on hand, with some wet weather set to continue in the first half of May, said the weatherman on April 30.
Thundery showers are expected over parts of the island on some afternoons over the next fortnight, as inter-monsoon conditions – which bring light and variable winds and heightened lightning activity – are expected to continue, said the Meteorological Service Singapore in a media statement.
On some mornings, Sumatra squalls may also bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds.
The daily maximum temperatures are likely to be around 34 deg C on most days, and may reach 35 deg C on some days.
In the last two weeks of April, Singapore experienced moderate to heavy showers on most days.
On April 20, heavy thundery rainfall occurred over most parts of the island, with Bukit Timah seeing a daily total rainfall of 113.6mm – the highest volume that was recorded in the last fortnight of the month.
Most parts of the Republic also saw above-average rainfall, with that in Bukit Timah 110 per cent above average.
The last two weeks of April were also warm, with daily maximum temperatures rising above 34 deg C on 11 days.
The highest daily temperature was 36 deg C, recorded in Admiralty on April 25.
