SINGAPORE - A new orchid hybrid has been named after the Singapore Garden Festival to commemorate its 10th edition.
This was unveiled on July 3 by Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing at the international garden and flower show at Gardens by the Bay.
The purplish-pink orchid displayed at The Meadow was christened the Papilionanthe Singapore Garden Festival.
The festival’s co-organisers National Parks Board and Gardens by the Bay said that its multicultural breeding background and descent from Singapore’s national flower the Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim reflect the festival’s international spirit and local heritage.
Chan was attending the festival’s award night, which was hosted by Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat.

The 2026 edition of the festival also featured the Floral Windows to the World Championship that received displays from 17 countries across four continents.
A commemorative book was also launched to celebrate how the festival has evolved from the ambition in 2006 to gather the world’s top garden and landscape designers under one roof.
The book, which normally costs $45, is available at a 20 per cent discount during the Singapore Garden Festival from July 4 to 12. It will be available at Singapore Botanic Gardens from July 13.
