The haze may be back, but it is unlikely to be as bad as the 2015 crisis - the region's worst on record.
Associate Professor Koh Tieh Yong, a weather scientist at Singapore University of Social Sciences, said: "That year was one of the strongest El Nino events on record, whereas the current cooling of the Indian Ocean is moderate by historical standards."
