Elderly woman injured in accident at Toa Payoh MRT

SINGAPORE - An elderly woman was injured in an accident near an escalator at Toa Payoh MRT Station on Tuesday night (Feb 6).
When The Straits Times was on the scene at about 9.40pm, an escalator that is usually upriding had been cordoned off.
The woman, who appeared to be in her 70s, was being attended to by SMRT staff. Her head, legs and arms were bandaged.
Ms Margaret Teo, SMRT'S vice-president of corporate communications, told ST on Wednesday that the woman, who was carrying grocery bags, lost her balance while she stepped on the escalator at the station.
"Our station staff attended to the lady immediately," said Ms Teo. "She is currently in hospital seeking treatment and our Commuter Engagement team is in touch with her."
The Singapore Civil Defence Force told ST that it was alerted to the accident at about 9.15pm and took the woman to Tan Tock Seng Hospital via an ambulance.
