The National University of Singapore (NUS) has come in strong in the latest Times Higher Education world university tables, making the top 10 in two of the eight academic subjects ranked.

In the field of engineering and technology, NUS ranked seventh in a tie with Imperial College London. It came in 10th for computer science, a new category added to this year's subject rankings.

NUS is the only Asian university to appear in the top 10 lists. The other subjects ranked are arts and humanities; business and economics; clinical, pre-clinical, and health; life sciences; physical sciences; and social sciences.

The same 14 universities jostled for the top five spots across all categories, Times noted in its report. Many of these schools are the usual suspects - Oxford was in the top five for seven subjects, while Stanford and Harvard made it to the top five for six subjects.

Times announced the subject rankings on Wednesday (Sept 28), a week after releasing its overall world university rankings. NUS placed 24th worldwide, the best performer in Asia, while Nanyang Technological University came in 54th.
