Singapore's two main universities - the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) - consistently do well in international rankings. Just last month, in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, NUS was placed 11th, while NTU was placed 12th.
Yet, an international panel of academic experts and industry leaders who met in Singapore last week cautioned that institutions here should not become fixated on international rankings.
