Easy tasks can be tough achievements

Scanning and e-mailing a document are easy - or even yawn-inducing - tasks for the average office worker. But such a task can be a struggle for people with disabilities in the workplace. To help raise awareness of their difficulties, 31 StarHub volunteers joined 13 people from disability welfare organisation SPD in a mini-race to complete certain office tasks. StarHub chief marketing officer Howie Lau (left) had his right hand and leg fitted with weights to simulate partial paralysis as the team attempted to create a PowerPoint presentation. With him are Mr Low Junin, a wheelchair user from SPD; and StarHub employee Terasa Choong, wearing spectacles that simulate visual impairment. StarHub yesterday donated $300,000 for an ongoing SPD programme that trains its beneficiaries in office skills so that they can land jobs.
