SINGAPORE – Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah reaffirmed a commitment to strengthen special bilateral ties by boosting cooperation in areas like food resilience, renewable energy and sustainability for the benefit of both countries.

DPM Heng, who is on a four-day visit to Brunei from July 14 to 17, also noted the longstanding ties between the two countries, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on July 15.

He is visiting the kingdom as a representative of the Singapore Government for Sultan Bolkiah’s 78th birthday celebrations, the statement added.

DPM Heng also attended Royal Guard of Honour and investiture ceremonies on July 15 as part of his official visit.

He and his wife also had a joint audience with Sultan Bolkiah and his wife, Queen Saleha, during which DPM Heng conveyed birthday greetings from Singapore’s leaders.

DPM Heng’s visit in 2024 comes as Singapore and Brunei mark 40 years of diplomatic ties.
