SINGAPORE - National Servicemen (NSmen) will be able to enjoy a slate of deals - such as discounts for courses at community clubs (CCs), food purchases at hawker centres and offers for health supplements - from July.
This is in recognition of their contributions, said the People's Association (PA) in a statement on Thursday (June 29).
The deals include a 10 per cent discount for NSmen who sign up for courses and facilities at PA CCs in the month of July.
And from July to the end of the year, NSmen can also get 10 per cent off selected courses at PA's Water Venture outlets, which provide water sports facilities.
PA said it also roped in merchants' associations in the heartland, such as those in hawker centres, to honour NSmen with discounts when they patronise participating stores and hawker stalls from July. This includes 10 per cent discounts on food and drink purchases, as well as health supplements. About 160 hawker stalls and shops are participating in offering deals.
PA said that through the CC's courses and facilities, the statutory board "hopes to provide a platform for residents to stay active and form deeper connections within the community".
It added that it aims to encourage NSmen and their families to lead an active lifestyle through the Water Venture offers.
Mr Desmond Tan, PA's chief executive director, noted that many NSmen contribute to society through their involvement in community work to strengthen social cohesion and racial harmony.
"This year, as Singapore celebrates NS50 (50 years of National Service), PA wants to show our appreciation for the sacrifices and hardwork of our generations of NSmen, who contribute to Singapore's security on one level and to our society's resilience and unity on another level," said Mr Tan. "We are heartened that merchants across Singapore have also come onboard to join us in thanking our NSmen."
To enjoy the discounts at CCs, Wave Venture outlets and hawker stalls, NSmen need to display their 11-B identification card or wear their uniforms.
