SINGAPORE – An 18-year-old cyclist was killed in a road accident in Yishun on Wednesday evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic.

A 37-year-old male tour bus driver was arrested on suspicion of careless driving causing death.

The police said they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Ring Road at around 6pm that day.

Photos of the accident circulating online show the victim covered by a blue cloth behind a Frontier Tours coach. Another image shows SCDF paramedics tending to the bus driver.

Managing director of Frontier Tours Terence Ng told The Straits Times that the company has handed the coach’s black box and closed-circuit television cameras to the authorities.

“Nobody wants accidents to happen... We will give whatever support we can to the deceased’s family during this difficult time,” he said.

“As investigations are ongoing, we hope people do not speculate and jump to conclusions.”

Mr Ng added that the driver involved in the accident was not injured and is going through counselling.
