SINGAPORE – Those heading to Chinatown between Feb 13 and 16 should check a live crowd map of the area before going, the police advised on Jan 27. This is because large crowds are expected for the Chinese New Year Bazaar, which runs from Jan 27 to Feb 16, the eve of Chinese New Year.

The

Crowd@Chinatown

map provides real-time updates on crowd levels and area closures and will be accessible from 6pm to 1am from Feb 13 to 16.

The public is advised to avoid the red areas on the live map. The police said selected areas will be locked down if crowd safety thresholds are reached, and visitors will be diverted.

To facilitate the bazaar, Temple Street will be closed from 4pm to 11pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 2pm to 11.59pm from Friday to Sunday.

The road will also be closed from 2pm on Feb 16 to 1.30am on Feb 17.

When Temple Street is closed, vehicular access will be given only to authorised vehicles, including police and emergency vehicles.

Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and vehicles found parking illegally in the restricted areas or causing obstruction will be towed away, the police said.

Also, police, auxiliary police and security officers will be deployed from the evening of Jan 27 to manage crowds and ensure public safety.

Commuters are advised to consider using Maxwell MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line to get to Chinatown, as Chinatown MRT station – which serves both the North East and Downtown lines – is expected to be crowded.

Members of the public are advised to be patient and to follow the instructions of officers and security personnel at all times, the police said.

Anyone with information on suspicious persons or activities can contact the Internal Security Department on 1800-262-6473 or the police on 999, or SMS 70999.

The public can also submit information online at

or report it via the SGSecure mobile app.
