State Courts Building's 40th birthday

The State Courts celebrate the 40th anniversary of the State Courts Building in Havelock Square today. Before the building was constructed, the district courts, magistrates' courts and other courts operated from different locations, including Empress Place, Hong Lim Green, Outram Road and South Bridge Road. From Sept 15, 1975, all these courts were centralised in this building, which took about two years to complete.


Private home sales data out today

Data on prices and the number of units launched and sold by developers last month for private residential properties will be released today.

The data will provide clues on whether July's rebound on private home sales was a blip or whether it signals a recovery for the year.


Vietnam's leader visits Japan

Vietnam's top leader, Mr Nguyen Phu Trong, will arrive in Japan today for a four-day official visit, which analysts believe is a reflection of the country's efforts to maintain balanced diplomacy with regional powers when it is locking horns with China over maritime disputes. Mr Trong is expected to discuss greater security cooperation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He is also scheduled to have an audience with Emperor Akihito.
