SINGAPORE - Two women aged 31 and 40 have been arrested for their suspected involvement in an online love scam.
On Sunday (July 17), police received a report of a case of cheating through such a scam.
The 41-year-old victim had gotten to know an unidentified man online in May and was led to believe that she was getting into a romantic relationship, police said in a news release on Thursday (July 21).
She was eventually convinced to transfer close to £43,500 (S$78,000) to an overseas bank account on two occasions before being advised by a friend to lodge a police report.
Following investigations by officers from Bedok Division, the suspects' identities were established and they were arrested along Bedok Road on Monday.
Cash amounting to $20,000 was recovered from one of the suspects, police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
