Two men charged in court over attacking couple with baton in Geylang

SINGAPORE – During a dispute in Geylang, two men allegedly used a baton to attack a couple they know.

They were arrested within four hours of the incident.

On Nov 13, Lee See Yeow, 39, and Tan Khoon Siong, 38, were charged with voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon in a district court.

Charge sheets stated that both men allegedly used an extendable metal baton to assault a male victim by hitting his face and body at about 6.50pm on Nov 11 around Lorong 24 Geylang.

The victim sustained a laceration on his right wrist and two broken teeth from the attack. He was taken to the hospital that day.

The charge sheets did not indicate what happened to the woman.

Lee and Tan and the couple were known to each other, the police said in a statement on Nov 12.

Through ground inquiries and footage from police cameras, officers identified Lee and Tan and arrested them within four hours of the incident.

For voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, an offender can be jailed for up to seven years, fined, caned, or receive a combination of any of such punishments.

Lee’s and Tan’s cases will be heard in court again on Dec 11.

In April 2024, a man who

attacked a Malaysian actor

at Singapore Expo with an extendable baton was sentenced to two years, four months and two weeks’ jail.

Muhammad Nabil Rashid committed the offence due to delusions that the victim – Mr Ahmad Kamal Ahmad Adli, 36, better known as Kamal Adli – had molested Nabil’s female relative.

Mr Ahmad was attending a celebrity meet-and-greet session at a bazaar event at the Singapore Expo on March 12, 2023, when he was attacked by Nabil.
