SINGAPORE – During a basketball game in Jurong, a 16-year-old repeatedly pushed a 15-year-old from the opposing team and also used his elbow to strike the younger boy’s face.
The victim had a permanent scar on his cheek as a result of the incident, and was given seven days’ hospitalisation leave.
On Nov 11, the older boy, now 17, was convicted of one count of voluntarily causing hurt which turned out to be grievous. He cannot be named because of a gag order.
The incident happened at about 5.35pm on Dec 17, 2024, at the basketball court near Block 559 Jurong West Street 52.
It was the first time the 17-year-old met the victim.
During the game, the offender pushed the victim multiple times.
“On the last of these occasions when the accused pushed the victim, the victim asked the accused why the accused was pushing him. The accused responded to the victim’s question by using his left elbow to strike the victim’s face,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Suriya Prakash told the court.
DPP Suriya asked for a probation suitability report for the teen.
The offender will be sentenced on Dec 23.
