Six young cyclists charged over flouting multiple road rules

SINGAPORE – Six youth cyclists who filmed themselves riding and performing stunts in Scotts Road and Orchard Road at around 11pm on May 10 were found to have flouted multiple road traffic rules.
In the video posted on social media, some of them are also seen swerving between lanes.
On Oct 9, the six, aged between 17 and 20, appeared at the State Courts to receive their charges. Their cases will be heard again on Nov 19.
Muhammad Aliyul Qadry Mohamad Razak, 20, faces four charges, the most among the group. He was charged with failing to keep to the left edge of the road, failing to ride in an orderly manner with due regard to the safety of others, riding without a helmet, and using a bicycle that is not equipped with a handbrake.
Muhaidy Marhady, 20, faces two charges – one for failing to keep to the left edge of the road, and one for cycling on the road without a helmet.
Ahmad Noordinie Mohamed Noorshah and Muhammad Irfan Muhamad Noor, both 19, each face one count of failing to keep to the left edge of the road, and one for failing to ride in an orderly manner with due regard to the safety of others.
Two of them cannot be named as they are 17 years old and protected under the Child and Young Persons Act.
One of them was charged with failing to ride his bicycle close to the left edge of the road, and one for failing to ride in an orderly manner with due regard to the safety of others.
The other faces the same two charges, plus one more of using his mobile phone while cycling.
First-time offenders who fail to keep to the left edge of the road, fail to ride in an orderly manner, fail to wear suitable helmets, or use a bicycle without a working brake, can be fined up to $1,000, jailed for up to three months, or both.
Those found guilty of using their mobile devices while riding can be fined up to $1,000, jailed up to six months, or both.
