Singapore Customs, police raid foreign workers dorm, fine 32 for having contraband cigarettes

SINGAPORE - Thirty-two foreign workers were fined for possessing contraband cigarettes in a raid conducted by the Singapore Police Force and Singapore Customs on Tuesday night (May 22).

Singapore Customs shared a collage of photos from the raid on its Facebook page on Friday.

Customs officers are shown going through the workers' belongings, and packs of contraband cigarettes are shown.

The officers conducted the operation at a foreign workers dormitory in Punggol and checked some 400 foreign workers.

The offenders were given composition fines.

First-time offenders with up to one packet of contraband cigarettes face composition fines of $500.

Heavier penalties apply if he is found with more than one packet, or if he is a repeat offender.
