A 16-YEAR-OLD boy, who had sex with a girl two years his junior at a staircase landing and performed a sexual act with another girl, was sentenced to 11/2 years' probation yesterday.

Muhammad Iskandar Sulaiman met the minor on Facebook in August 2013.

She later became pregnant and gave birth to a son although it is not known if Muhammad Iskandar is the father.

She had listed her age as 20 on the social networking website, but when they began chatting, she claimed she was 15.

A few days later, the pair met in Toa Payoh at Muhammad Iskandar's suggestion.

They went to the staircase landing on the sixth floor of Block 79. Although the girl initially refused to have sex, she consented when he said that he would take responsibility for anything that happened.

They then had dinner and went home.

The next month, she told him she was pregnant.

She stopped attending school when she gave birth to a boy in April last year.

Muhammad Iskandar also faced two charges of performing sexual acts with underage girls. One of the charges - relating to the 14-year-old - was taken into consideration.

He met the other girl - a 13-year-old - through a mutual friend in October 2013 and carried out the offence the following month at the girl's house.

She slapped him and told her friends what had happened.

District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said he believed Muhammad Iskandar can be rehabilitated, with the "attentive supervision and attentive guidance" of his parents.

He added he would revoke the probation and send the teenager for reformative training if the sentence did not teach him to be on his best behaviour.

A $5,000 bond was paid by the teenager's parents to ensure his good behaviour.

Muhammad Iskandar will also be required to perform 150 hours of community service and stay indoors from 10pm to 6am.

For each charge, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
