SINGAPORE - A motorist allegedly involved in a traffic accident near a Beach Road mall
One of Darryl Angus Tan Lingyi’s charges stated that he was allegedly driving a car without due care and attention at the junction of Jalan Sultan and Minto Road at around noon on Dec 21, 2023, leading to an accident that caused grievous hurt to a 58-year-old female pedestrian.
By allegedly driving in such a manner, Tan, 38, is also accused of causing an accident involving two male pedestrians, aged 32 and 42. According to court documents, both men were hurt in the accident.
Details about the pedestrians’ injuries were not disclosed in court documents, which stated that Tan had allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout while making a discretionary right turn into Minto Road that day, resulting in a collision with a taxi.
The taxi then veered to the left, mounted a pavement outside the City Gate shopping mall in Beach Road, and struck the three pedestrians.
In 2023, a spokesperson for transport provider ComfortDelGro said that the taxi driver had minor injuries, and that there were no passengers on board when the accident occurred.
Tan’s case will be mentioned again in court on July 23.
If convicted of causing grievous hurt to another person by driving a vehicle without due care and attention, an offender can be jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000, or both.
A first-time offender convicted of causing hurt to others by driving in such a manner can be jailed for up to a year, fined up to $2,500, or both.
