SINGAPORE – A man was charged on Sept 4 after he went to a bank and

allegedly tried to deposit a counterfeit Singapore $10,000 note

into an account.

Aurick Kenji Almira Valeryan, 22, is accused of one count of handing the note to a UOB officer despite having reason to believe it was fake.

The Indonesian man allegedly committed the offence at the UOB branch in Clementi Avenue 3 at about 2pm on Aug 15.

In a statement on Sept 3, the police said the counter staff who received the note suspected it was counterfeit and informed a manager.

The police were alerted and officers arrested Valeryan, who is expected to plead guilty on Sept 25.

If convicted of delivering the counterfeit note to the bank officer, he can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined.
